Maryland State Youth Soccer is dedicated to the development of coaches and players across the state. When one becomes a better coach it translates into better training for the players. The better the training the quicker players develop.
In order to meet the changing needs of today’s game, the United States Soccer Federation and US Youth Soccer continue to develop the coaching education programs provided by the state. Maryland State Youth Soccer will continue to follow the lead of these national organizations and provide the coaches in Maryland with the ever-evolving coaching education programs.
Maryland State Youth Soccer offers three levels of courses that include field instruction in the areas of technique, tactics, and fitness. The courses also offer instruction in methodology, team management, and sport psychology.
The Maryland State Youth Soccer educational staff will offer the following courses to enhance the knowledge and coaching experience for coaches who are helping to develop youth soccer players:
D License: The highest state license is the “D” license. The focus of the D license is for coaches working with players 12 years of age and older. The D course is the prerequisite for the National “C” license. For more information about the D license please review the description of the course on our website.
E License: The “E” license is for coaches who are coaching players 12 years of age and older and maybe new to the licensing program or participating in 11 vs. 11 for the first time. The E license is the prerequisite for the D license. This course will introduce the coaching methodology and progression as each coach enhances his/her coaching education. The E course is the required license for coaching travel soccer in the state of Maryland. For more information about the E license please review the description of the course on our website.
Youth Modules: The third level of the state’s coaching education program is the Youth Modules. This course was previously known as the F license. As a result of the change in curriculum the course now has three levels: Level 1 focuses on the U6 to U8 age group: Level 2 focuses on the U8 to U10 age group; Level 3 completes the cycle and focuses on U10 to U12. For more information on these levels please review the descriptions of the course on our website.
From time to time during the summer, Maryland State Youth Soccer will offer either the National Youth License or the National C license. Please continue to check the educational section of the website for updates and future courses. For more information about each of the courses please review the course descriptions on USSF or United States Youth Soccer’s website.
