The National Soccer Coaches Association of American recently honored Maryland coach, Steve Nichols, as the 2013 Boys Private/Parochial School National Coach of the Year. Additionally, Steve is the head coach of the U17 Casa Mia Boys, U18 Casa Mia Boys and the U19 Casa Mia Boys Baltimore Celtic Soccer Club. To read more on Coach Nichols, click here.
Head coach, Victor Della Mea was honored as the 2013 Washington County Girls Soccer Coach of the Year. Victor also serves as the Western Regional Commissioner on the MSYSA Executive Board. Click here to read more on Victor’s accomplishments.
MSYSA 3rd Vice President, Cliff Walcott, also had a winning season with his Atholton JV girls’ team with an undefeated season. Coach Walcott’s team outscored their opponents 42-7 ending their season with a record of 8-0-3. More information can be found by clicking here.
Sydney Rhian Patterson was named the 2013 Young Female Referee of the Year for Region I. This award honors those who have a strong work ethic, knowledge of the rules of the game and are positive role models. She has been refereeing since registering in 2008. In that time, she’s been selected to work many Maryland State Youth Soccer State Cup games, including the U13 girls finals in 2013. She also refereed at both the 2013 US Youth Soccer ODP Regional Championships and the 2013 US Youth Soccer Region I Champiionships. She is now working toward becoming a USSF Grade 7 referee and a member of the Elite Mentor Group in Maryland to help younger referees. Syndey is competing for the National US Youth Soccer Young Female Referee of the Year to be determined January 17, 2014 at the US Youth Soccer Awards Gala in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
